SUPERSTAR

My first ever rajnikant movie SIVAJI – THE BOSS and am already a fan of his. He is called ‘rajni ‘in the south. The movie starts with SUPER STAR( written in diamond studded bold font) Rajni as Sivaji-the boss. As soon as the word super star appears on screen people started howling, screeming, whistling. For once I didn’t know what was going on and the movie had not started as yet. The theatre was filled with tamilian and few of them non tamilians like us. The crowd in the movie hall could not stop screeming, shouting rajnikant’s name till he appeared on screen.
First scene of the movie starts with the climax scene where sivaji is been taken to jail in a posh swanky car. The camera focuses on the close up of his foot,( haha… a little more close up of the shoe and I think I could also been able to read the shoe brand) where he puts his foot down on the ground and the people in the theatre suddenly get up from their seat as if he is going to come out of the screen. The crowd started cheering rajni, rajni, rajni till his face was revealed on screen. Well you can imagine a typical scene where he faces the his back to the audience behind bars and suddenly turns towards us with a stylish smile on his face. Hahaha I just could not stop laughing looking at the madness of the crowd for this super hero. But I could truly sense the madness and love for ranjikanth by his avid fan followers.
Songs are all dream sequence, with wonderful green (Indian) location. Dancers draped in colourful bright costumes. Where in one of the songs they have actually painted rajnikants portrait on all the dancers stomach!!!
Stunts are a must watch. You just can’t miss rajnikant’s stylish stunts. The fight sequence varies from roof top fight scenes , fight sequence with musical instruments and above that stunts done on huge drums to car dashing.
He has created a different persona for which people love him. Forget what character he plays, he flips cigarettes, he will toss a chewing off his palms which will land neatly into his mouth, he will be in loss but will rise again on his own merit etc etc. this movie has no such great story but the movie is totally a typical RANJIKANT flick. For which you will have end number of ways for stylish small stunts which you would love to try but would always fail to get it right!. Rajni is pure style.
He is suppose to be Marathi and hails form Kolhapur. His real name is Sivaji Gaikwad. Their family migrated to south india many many years ago. Ranjikanth is treated as god in the south. As a super star he has done a lot for poor people in tamil nadu. He has also distributed money and done a lot of social service.. Well ranjikanth mantra is: my people are the one who made me a superstar and a owe a lot to them, I shall thank them by helping the poor. This gives me blessing, wishes and strength.

This certainly makes him a true super star.

first day first show

First day first show of the movie Awarapan and only fifteen people in the theatre!!…people have these pre -conceived notions about how would the film do after release or we either watch the trailer and decide to watch or not…but this time i did the other way round. Anyways I was getting bored at home and wanted to watch a new hindi movie….any Hindi movie which would be entertaining. Went for emraan hashmi’s new movie Awarapan and was total timepass full on entertainment . This movie introduces two new actresses sriya and mrinalani. These days I feel the new actresses are well trained and groomed , they don’t seem to look like ‘introducing’ heroines but look like as if they have worked in many movies before!! As they portray themselves with right poise and confidence. It is also a good come back for villain's like ashish vidyarthi and ashutosh rana. The movie is shot in hong kong. There is no story as such but a nice entertainer and definitely better than Vicky thukral and alvira of jhoom barabar…apart from those cranky, emotional, melodrama films. This movie has no extreme pyar vyar, no divorces, no extra marital affair, no running around tress etc etc..but a one time watch with a lot of dishum dishum in the film.. A completely new range and good well composed songs by pritam….well he is going to be one music director to set his mark with new range of music compositions with phir aao, mahiya, tera mera rishta purana hitting the music charts.

PanchamDa

Kuchh toh log kahenge, logoka kaam hai kehna...chodo bekaar kee baton mein kahi beet na jaye raina…..anand bakshi’s lyrics with R.D Burman’s music simply moved the whole audience in the bhaidas hall singing and humming the song sitting in their places. The musical audience would just roar up by saying aaha, wah , kya baat hai as soon as the host would anounce the song. Y’day was yet another refereshing musical evening as i attended the 68th birth anniversary of Panchamda’s musical evening organized by Mumbai’s Keep Alive group. Since the show was on Rediscovering R.D Burman, I got to hear and know many songs which were less heard and not so famous but so melodiously composed that it sounded like any other new fresh stock of songs. Another great thing about the show was the host and compere the organizer of the group who would tell small anecdotes, stories, biography, and also the songs being written in which suitaution if any, where, when, why, name of the film being directed under which banner and again if the movie was a flop why was it flop, what kind of music era was it, who played the instruments right from whether panchanda had introduced a new kind of instrument , and on and on and on…………sigh!!!!!...well he is just like a chalta firtaa music encyclopedia!.
The audience just cld’nt stop humming and singing with the singer the songs like o hansini, beeti na beetiyee raina, rim jhim gere sawan, chingari koi bhadke, tere bina jiya jaye na…..wow the list is endless. Well in the song tere bina jiya jaaye na sung by lata ji, where every two lines the sur and the chords of the guitar changes. Here in this song since the sur and chords change every second line R.D.Burman changed tablas accordingly to the sur which was very difficult….you need to listen to the song to know the technicalities.!!!. R.D Burman never liked gulzar so much as he would write lyrics like prose and not like poetry. Panchamda would even taunt gulzarsaab by saying that you have the capability to even give me a newspaper headline to compose it…and yes R.D would have that capacity to compose it and make them evergreen. There are so many things to talk on this topic when it comes to music and R.D Burman. I missed going for these music programme for two years and now since I am in Mumbai i don’t loose the chance to attend these dedicated music programmes. Yet another legendary music composer whose compositions completely refreshed my evening . Cheers to the musicians and the singers who sung the songs with immence love and respect.

Shetty's

Sometimes people consider me to as a pukka Shetty ....Shetty sirname is normally considered to be from the Bunt family and I am a Shetty by default!!….Bunt Shetty are the one who own chain of udipi restaurant where u enjoy good idli, dosa and sambar in mumbai...where the girls don’t go to in their in – law’s place but rather the boy’s go their in-law’s place as ghar jamai….its been since my school days when people would get confused and think as how I would speak such good Marathi. Earlier people would often ask me whether I am related to sunil Shetty or shilpa Shetty …..rememeber the time when two shetty’s had suddenly made big noise in bollywood…..hahahaah it was good fun to tell them that they are my distant cousins and sometimes my aunty and uncle!!….imagine my mom sittting all day at mom wearing heavy kanjivaram saris and my dad sitting at the counter of one of the udipi restaurants …heheheh

Shilpa Apurva

Shilpa and Apurva would be one couple i would love to hang out with even when I will be eighty. Couple in their early 30’s with an eight year old son who wants to become an inventor!..they are first friends to my mom and dad and then to me. I don’t know how old is apurva and shilpa and I never addressed them as aunty and uncle since the age difference between me and them could be in between ten to twelve years and I deliberately used to avoid addressing them as aunty and uncle because never felt like when one fine day when we were in their car I hesitantly asked them whether I could call them by their names. Hahaha they simply like it..Shilpa and apurva’s way of approaching people and talking to people of different age group is worth observing. That is why I never felt like and never looked upto them as elder to me, but as same age group as mine. Stylish apurva and bubbly wife shilpa compliment each other with their amazing sense of humour. And good thing about them is they love to give us car lift. If you think in a selfish sense , who would not like a comfort car ride!!!. Everytime we meet for a music programme apurva makes it a point to drop us all the way to our doorstep. Even if it is a long drive from king’s circle to kandivali. And then back to vile parle. That’s just because we could get a nice time together chatting , joking and having a good laugh in his red accent with good new hindi music and to top it all up with some nice mesmerizing coffee. This completely made my day. Well shilpa and apurva certainly have added to my friends list.
